A Story by Heavenlynn Healthy filmed by Kitchen Stories.

A few weeks ago I got to meet the amazing girls and guys from Kitchen Stories, who visited me for two days. We spent the whole two days cooking, filming, laughing and for some reason not really eating. I guess we were just so focused on shooting as many videos as possible that we totally forgot about that. Besides from recipe videos, they also made sort of an “image film” called “A Story by Heavenlynn Healthy” about my story and the story around my blog, which turned out beautifully in my opinion.

Since my little apartment in Lüneburg is too small to host six camera crew people, we decided to take the videos in my parents’ house in Stade, which is the town where I grew up in. It’s a small but picturesque town with a gorgeous “old town”.

In total we filmed the hot beetroot and apple glögg, the gingerbread cookies, my best apple pie, an orange granola, pumpkin pie squares and the moroccan sweet potato, chickpea and kale stew. So far, we’ve released the glögg and the gingerbread cookies, just in time for the Holidays!

Of course Balu was the secret star of the whole event, however, he is not a big fan of photos or videos, which you can tell if you know him. However, he definitely loved the attention he got from all of our visitors (and all of the treats of course!).

Beetroot and Apple Glögg (Hot Wine or Punch)

Healthy Gingerbread Cookies

If you have never heard of Kitchen Stories, you’re in for a treat! It’s an app and a website filled with lots of recipes, recipe videos and infos around cooking. And the best part: it’s totally free! You can find all of the recipes that we filmed on their app and their website, as well as an article about me in their online magazine.

A big thanks goes out to the whole Kitchen Stories team for the wonderful experience and of course the videos.

So today I’d like to announce a special day for my blog: I am launching my first ever Vlog. If you are not familiar with the term “Vlog”, don’t worry, I did not know it before either. My boyfriend came to me the other day, and was outraged by a magazine cover that in his opinion misspelled the word “Blog”. So I introduced him to the term “Vlog”, which is nothing other than an abbreviation for Video-Blog. If you’ve known this term for a while and I am boring you already, then please forgive me, but some of us are just not able to keep up with the fast changing media, blogging and social media inventions. Anyway, this is my first attempt on “Vlogging”, and I am not really sure if I’ll keep it up. But this blog is my baby, and so I thought I’d give it a try and see how it goes.

Of course this “Healthy Eating in London Vlog” is anything but professional, it just shows you the honest and unretouched reality of a sister weekend in Berlin. We really mostly ate, but we also went shopping and biked around the whole city, which is why we were always hungry when we stopped at the many restaurants and delis. We also went running in Hype Park in the morning, so overall, we had a pretty healthy weekend in beautiful London. For a list of all the places we went to, take a look at my Healthy Eating in London blog post.

How do you like healthy travel vlogs?

Would you like me to post more of these kinds of videos or videos in general? I’d love to hear what you want to see or read.

I’ve finally uploaded a new video for home made almond butter, which is my favorite thing in the world. I know I’m really bad at uploading regular YouTube videos, but I’m just not a pro at shooting and editing videos. Please stay with me while my videos are making progress. However, I think that the video clearly shows how easy it is to make your own almond butter, and that it doesn’t take long or costs a fortune.

Home made almond butter is one of the staples that I always have in stock. It’s one of my best protein sources, and I eat it with literally anything. I spread it on rye bread, apple slices, add it to my baked goods as a substitute for butter, or even to stir-frys for an extra-touch of plant-based protein.

Making almond butter only requires one ingredient so you couldn’t even call it cooking really. Unfortunately you will need a high quality and powerful food processor to get the perfect texture. I am really sorry, but I have tried it with my 20 Euro blender – without success. It doesn’t need to be a very expensive machine, but it needs to have power to break down the almonds completely.
Since almond butter consists of only one ingredient, it is a very clean food, and totally healthy as well. Nut butter, in general, is a great way to add some healthy protein and unsaturated fats to your diet. The healthy fatty acids protect our heart and lower the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Almonds are also an amazing super- and beauty food because of their high vitamin E content. Vitamin E is especially important for healthy nails, hair and glowing skin.
Pre-heat the oven to 180°C and pour the almonds onto a baking tray. Roast them for about 8 - 10 minutes until you can small their nutty flavor. Take the tray out of the oven and let the almonds cool entirely. This is very important otherwise the recipe may not work.

Once the almonds have cooled down completely, place them into your food processor together with the salt and cinnamon (optional) and blend on high for about 5 minutes. Scrape down the side of your food processor if necessary and blend for another 5 minutes. Do take little 30 seconds breaks in between to ensure your food processor doesn't shut down due to heat. After 10 minutes of blending, the almond butter should already have a nice creamy texture. If it doesn't then you need to blend it for another 5 minutes or so until you reach the desired creamy texture.

Stored in an air-tight glas container and in the fridge it should last 2 - 3 week.

3.5.3208

I know my YouTube channel has been a bit quiet lately, but this is going to change from now on. I just shot three brand new videos that will be uploaded to YouTube within the next few weeks, starting today with this green spring smoothie with mint and basil video. Smoothies are the perfect way to get nutrients into your system, especially greens. Some days I just don’t feel like preparing a salad or cooking large meals, so smoothies help me get my fair share of vitamin K every day. One handful of basil, for example, gives you almost 100% of your recommended daily amount of vitamin K, which is important for blood clotting and blood sugar regulation.

Experimenting with herbs in smoothies is a fun way to spice up your smoothie, and basil and mint are great herbs to start with. You might want to take it slow with the mint leaves, as they can have quite a strong taste, but other than that I think this smoothie will please even the worst smoothie haters. What’s your favorite green smoothie flavor combination? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below.

I’ve finally managed to upload a new video: healthy pad thai with peanut sauce and coriander (cilantro). This dish has been my boyfriend and my favorite for quite some time now. Some might say that we’re addicted, and they would probably be right. We eat it at least twice a week if not more. We’ve perfected every step in the making process so that it only takes us about 25 minutes to make it, but that includes lots of routine and practice, so I believe the normal prepping time would be between 35 and 45 minutes for someone who makes this for the first time.

I listened to one of my lovely readers, and also included some nutritional benefit infos in this video. I hope you like this little addition. I hope you will enjoy watching me make my favorite meal. There will be another video this weekend, so be sure to stop by tomorrow.

Thank you so much for your positive feedback regarding my new YouTube channel. I’m so flattered that you guys liked to see the real face behind Heavenlynn Healthy, and I will do my best to shoot more videos in the future. What kind of recipes would you like to see next in a video? Do you have any favorites that you would like to see on YouTube? I would love to hear your thoughts on this in the comments below. For now, there’s a new recipe up on YouTube today, baked avocados, which has been the most popular recipe on my blog lately.

As you will hear in the video, I am pretty excited about the fact that you can actually bake avocados, and not just eat them raw. I even expect this to be one major food trend in 2016, along with sumac and za’atar, my new favorite spices in my cupboard. This video clearly shows how easy it is to prepare this dish, and how little effort is required. You don’t need a food processor or any other fancy kitchen equipment, so literally anyone can do this. Avocados also belong to the “Clean 15”, which means that you don’t need to buy the organic ones, as avocados are very unlikely to hold pesticide residue. My tip: I buy my avocados in discount supermarkets, where you can get them for as little as 69 cents a piece, which is pretty reasonable. If you visit your local farmers market right before close, then you can probably find cheap deals such as 5 for 4, which is also a great way to save money, and to make this dish more affordable.

I’ve finally managed to shoot my first ever YouTube video! Since I’ve been the biggest healthy bircher muesli addict recently, I knew that it had to be this special recipe as it’s one of my favorites on the blog. I am still a bit insecure about the whole YouTube thing, but bare with me while I improve my YouTube skills over the course of the next videos. Regardless of quality and my English, I hope that this recipe will show you how easy it is to prepare a healthy breakfast and how little time or effort is required to do so. Breakfast is my favorite meal, so I hope that I can inspire some of you not to skip it because of a lack of time. You can easily prepare this healthy bircher muesli the night before, so it’s ready when you get up. Leaving the oats to soak over night will not only save you time in the morning, it will also make the oats more digestible, which is a win win situation I think. I like to top my bircher with banana slices, frozen or fresh berries and some nuts and seeds for an extra crunch, but you can also enjoy it just as it is. Let me know what you think, and I hope that some of you will give it a try.
