One of the best parts of blogging is your direct feedback. Your emails, questions, kind messages make my day every day, and I am so thankful that you trust my opinion on so many levels. Probably the most frequent question I get is about kitchen appliances.

Kitchen appliances is a difficult topic as most high quality kitchen machines won’t cost you less than 100 Euros. It’s an investment and therefore requires research, planning and usually savings – my kitchen machines probably have a net worth of a small (tiny) car. That’s probably why I do not own an actual car, you guys. This post is dedicated to my kitchen appliances, hence, it’s about my whole life. Just kidding. But seriously, I love my small and big gadgets and noted what I love and don’t love about them and what the pros and cons of buying are for each one. I wrap up with a little Q&A Obviously, I cannot test all kitchen gadgets on the market, so I would kindly ask you to leave a comment below with a) your kitchen machine and b) what it does best and what it has difficulties with. I think this place could be a place to share your experiences, because together we can collect so much knowledge and advice on this topic.

Thank you in advance and have fun reading.

My Thermomix

I don’t know how well-known Thermomix is in the anglo-saxon world, but in Germany Thermomix is THE most successful kitchen machine. It’s more than just a food processor: it’s a machine that combines all your kitchen gadgets in one machine. It is sold like tupper ware, so you cannot buy it in the store, but only through a representative. I got my Thermomix from my parents – a very generous gift as it comes with a pretty heavy price tag of over 1000 Euros. But it was the best gift I have ever gotten, because I have been using it every single day for almost four years now, and I could not love it more. There are a few things that I doesn’t do as good as my other kitchen machines (hummus, spreads, nut butter), but it can grind, it can cook, it can steam and it is easy to clean, so I wouldn’t give it away EVER!

What I use my Thermomix for:

to grind

to chop

for soups

for homemade vegetable broth

for homemade jam

for nicecream

Where it needs improvement: (complaining on a very high level that is)

smoothies

hummus

dips and spreads

I know, Thermomix lovers will call me crazy, but they have not tried making spreads with a Magimix. The thing with the Thermomix and other conventional blenders is that if you make hummus, for example, it pushes the hummus to the side and you need to scrape down the sides frequently. Or you need to double the portion if you want the machine to work best. It’s not a problem if you just want to make hummus and you do not care too much about it’s texture, but I like my hummus smooth, so I use my Magimix for this purpse.

Pro Thermomix:

high power

combines more than 100 kitchen gadgets in 1 machine

steamer function

cooking function

A+ grinding function

dish washer safe and easy to clean

Con Thermomix:

the heavy price tag

hummus and spreads are not always smooth enough

smoothies are o.k., but also not totally smooth

The Magimix

Why I own a Thermomix and a Magimix? First of all, because I’m obsessed with kitchen appliances obvi. Second of all, I love pestos, hummus, dips and spreads and nut butters, and I think that the Magimix achieves the best result on all of the above. I tested the Magimix two years ago and got to keep the machine afterwards, so I am very lucky to own the Magimix 5200XL. You cannot compare this machine to Thermomix as it is not a full kitchen machine, hence, it is a lot more affordable with 399 Euros.

What I use my Magimix for:

Hummus

Pestos

Dips

Energy Balls

Nut Butter

What it cannot do (well):

grinding grains
smoothies (it is not a blender)

Pro Magimix:

quality of the dips and spreads

amazing price performance ratio

30 year warranty on the engine

it can do everything that you blender cannot do: it does not skid the spreads on the walls, so less to no scraping-down required

easy to store

Con Magimix:

it cannot cook as it is not a full kitchen machine

it cannot blend as it is not a blender

cleaning requires some effort as it is not dish-washer safe

The Vitamix

As a smoothie-lover, you’ve probably heard about the wonder-machine Vitamix. You will find it in every major smoothie bar as it simply makes great and smooth smoothies. I have the Vitamix 750, and I love it. If you love smoothies and you make them every day, then investing in a Vitamix is probably a good idea. If you only drink smoothies occationally, and you do not care about the smoothest results, then a Vitamix might not be the best solution for you. I use my Vitamix especially in the summer, and sometimes for soups in the winter. My sister taught me, that Vitamix makes nut butters, too – and especially smooth nut butter if I may add. I did not know that for the longest time, and it was definitely a game changer for me.

What I use my Vitamix for:

smoothies, duh

nut butter

hot soups

nut milk

nicecream

What it cannot do (well)

hummus

dips and spreads

energy balls

pestos

juicing (it is not a juicer ;-))
Since Vitamix is a blender, it usually needs some form of liquid (except for the nut butters for some reason) to function perfectly. That’s why it has difficulties making hummus, pestos, etc. like any other blender.

Philips Juicer:

Especially during the cold winter months, I love freshly pressed juices with my Philips Avance Juicer. I have to admit that this is probably my least frequently used kitchen gadget, but every time I take it out of its shelf, I make a mental not, do make juice more often, as it’s just so delicious. What I do not love about it is the cleaning part, so I think that’s why I do not use it every day. But at the weekends, I think it’s a great addition to a healthy breakfast or brunch.

What I use my Philips juicer for:

juicing… ☺

What it does not do:

blending

Pro Philips:

great price performance ratio

easier to clean than other juicers

dish washer safe – yay!

Con Philips:

it’s not a cold-pressed juicer

the pre-dishwasher-cleaning takes a liiiiittle effort

I asked you on Instagram for questions around my kitchen appliances, so here are your questions and my answers.

I am a student with little budget and cabinet space. What kitchen appliances should I get?
Easy: you do not need a high speed blender, so you can eliminate the Vitamix. You definitely make smoothies with a cheaper blender until you make real money ☺. If you like hummus and spreads, I would buy a hand blender / mixer like this one. It’s the cheapest kitchen gadget and my grandmother made everything with this. It also purees soups, so as a student, this is the cheapest and most efficient option. If you like energy balls, then you could make them with your hands using really soft and goey fresh dates. So if you’re a student, my answer is a cheaper blender and a hand blender / mixer.

How often do you use your kitchen appliances?
Every day! Even before blogging, I used my Thermomix every day. There are days when I use all of them, and days when I only use one or two.

Your kitchen appliances are very expensive. Can you recommend any cheaper alternatives?
Yes and no. I consntaly ask my friends and relatives about their kitchen appliances. My uncle keeps telling me that they had to send in their blender yet again for the third time as it keeps breaking. I have not found the perfect machine for under 100 Euros, but perhaps it is out there – if you’ve found it, please let me know. I have owned several blenders before the Vitamix, all of which are broken now. If you go very cheap, then you will end up paying more in the long run. However, I do completely understand that spending more than 200 Euros for kitchen appliances is not possible for most people. I can recommend the Philips Avance blender for less than 80 Euros if you’re looking for a good and affordable blender. It does not compare to the Vitamix, but it will do. My cousin uses a Kenwood kitchen machine, and it can make nut butter, yet it needs to be stopped frequently to avoid over-heating. If your food processor makes great nut butters, energy balls and hummus and is affordable, please leave a comment below!

Is there a kitchen gadet that you never use and whose purchase you regret?
Mhh..my mom once got me this thing to punch holes into veggies for stuffing. Never really used it, but always wanted to.

Do you know the kitchen gadet XYZ and would you recommend me purchasing it?
As much as I am touched by your trust in my opinion, I would never recommend something that I do not know and have not tested (or have reliable information from close friends and family or trusted readers). That’s why I usually have to tell the readers that ask me this, that I cannot help them in this case. I can vouch for the machines that I am using, but not for something I’ve seen on the internet.

What do you think of KitchenAid Kitchen Gadgets?
I used to have a Kitchen Aid back when I lived in Texas, and I loved it. If you’re a baker, then OMG go get one. They are soooo beautiful. However, as I tend to grind my flour freshly, I do not use a hand mixer that often anymore, so a Kitchen Aid would not really be needed in my kitchen at the moment. Also Jannis would probably not be amused if I got a huge pink Kitchen Aid, too. If you have the need and the money to buy a Kitchen AId, then I won’t stop you. Just note that there are endless additions for this machine, so your kitchen cabinets will fill quite quickly.

What do you use for making nicecream?
Confessions of a food blogger – not really into nicecream. Can I even say that out loud? I am not an ice cream person. Please do not hate me now. I’ve just been more of a chocolate person, and ice cream is just so cold…
But if you make nicecream, I use either my Vitamix or my Thermomix.

I am ready to make an investment. Which of your three kitchen gadets should I get?
Pew. I hate this question. It’s so so hard. Honestly, this is the time for my diplomatic business student answer: it depends. It really depends on what you want to cook / bake, how much money you want to spend, how many people live in your house, how often you cook / bake, how big your kitchen cabinet is, and so on.
I would say that if you have the money, buy a Thermomix. If you don’t have the money, buy a Magimix. If you have all the money, buy a Vitamix in addition to either one of the food processors. But there is no need to own all three.

Vitamix and Magimix also sell smaller appliances. Are they worth the money?
For Magimix – yes, absolutely. The Magimix 3200XL is great! It’s „only“ 299 Euros and makes great nut butters, pestos, spreads, etc. Just note that it’s engine is a little less powerfull than that oft he 5200XL. For the Vitamix, my mom uses the Vitamix Professional 300, and it is just as great as the Pro750. But I have not tested any other Vitamix.

Can you recommend a food processor for under 100 Euros?
Under 100 Euros is hard. I have not found one that achieves great results. Under 300 Euros, the Magimix 3200XL is great! A hand blender / mixer is grear for hummus and soups.

Can you recommend a food processor under 300 Euros?
Yes! The Magimix 3200XL.

If you could take any kitchen gadget on a deserted island. Which one would you chose?
My Thermomix, since it can do almost everything.

And if you only had 100 Euros, which kitchen gadget would you buy?
A good knife. And a hand blender / mixer by Bosch or Philips.

If you have any other questions, shot me a comment below or an email, and I will add it to the list. Also, please tell me what food processer / blender / juicer you use and what it does best. The other readers will appreciate it!

This post is not sponsored. It does not include affeliate links. The Magimix and Vitamix were given to me approx. two years ago for testing purposes, and I have been using them ever since. All opinions are my own. Always.

This Healthy Holiday Gift Guide is basically a collection of things that I already own and love or that I will give away to family and friends this Christmas. I have always loved holiday gift guides, so I thought, why not make my own this year? Of course most of the things are kitchen related, but being a girl also means that I love fashion and beauty, so I’ve piled up my favorites in this guide as well. I really hope you’ll find something cool and unexpected or maybe even something you haven’t heard of before. Happy Holiday Shopping!

Cookbooks:

Just like every year, I love giving cookbooks to family members and friends that I know will appreciate another beautiful cookbook. My all-time favorites are the Green Kitchen Stories cookbook as well as Deliciously Ella’s book, because both are just beautiful.

Kitchen tools:

I cannot stress it often enough, but having the right kitchen tools makes cooking so much easier. Now I know that the ones I picked here are in the top price segment, but I believe that in this field you really get what you pay for. I have assembled a list of different options in this article about food processors and blenders if you want some cheaper options.

Tableware:

Do you know what I love about my generation? We are not expected to have a matching set of 24 plates and bowls anymore. Mixing and matching is so much more fun, don’t you think? However, I do appreciate my 8-piece plate set by Broste Copenhagen, which we will set this year’s Christmas table with. I love the danish company’s timeless design, and I could not recommend their products more.

Letter mugs:

Ever since I posted my letter mug on Instagram, I have been getting tons of questions on where to find it. It’s from my favorite brand Anthropologie and they ship both to most countries worldwide.

Rain boots:

If you live in a rather wet and cold area like me, rain boots are mandatory. I am a big fan of timeless style, so Hunter boots are still one of my favorites when it comes to rain boots.

Jewelry:

One piece that I especially love this year is my Cluse watch. This Amsterdam based brand still make watches with small diameters, which is great for small wrists like mine. While I was in Miami this year, I also treated myself to an Alex & Ani ring to match my bracelet collection. I fell in love with Alex & Ani while I was in Boston three years ago, and have introduced all my friends to their “Made in the United States” products.

Toxic-free nail polish:

I recently discovered a startup company that makes toxic-free and vegan nail polish. Their color selection is huge, and I love that they only produce in Germany. OZN Vegan ships internationally, too, so go get em, folks. Colorwise, I can highly recommend the Christmas red “Sina”.

Natural Beauty products:

Natural beauty products make for the best gifts this year, especially for sustainability focused people. Honestly, doesn’t using a natural beauty product makes you feel so much better than applying something with tons of chemicals in it? For the past two years, I have been trying to switch to natural beauty products as much as I could. My favorite brands include Aveda, Kiehl’s, Lavera, and La Bruket. Not quite 100% natural is my favorite lip balm by Smith’s. However, I swear by this brand, and could not recommend it more.

Silk pillow case:

A silk pillow case? Yes, you’ve heard right. I love extraordinary gifts, and a silk pillow is definitely one of them. It will come totally unexpected and will surprise anyone. Sleeping on a silk pillow case is great for your skin, and will prevent your roots from splitting. I take mine wherever I go, and will never go back.

Ever since I published my articles about blenders, I have been getting so many questions about food processors, that I really tried to publish this article sooner, but testing, asking friends, other food bloggers and readers for their experience took me longer than expected. I think I should start by once again explaining what the difference between a food processor and a blender is.

The difference between a food processor and a blender is that a blender requires liquid to perform, and a food processor does not. The other difference is the size of the blade. A food processor has a large blade that allows it to break down nuts, grains and vegetables without needing liquid, whereas blenders tend to have a smaller blade that is perfect for blending smoothies and other liquid-based foods. Blenders also have a higher number of rotations that is needed to make smoothies really smooth.

Why do I need a food processor?

I use my processor at least once a day. Food processors have the ability to break down food in ways that no blender can. In my healthy kitchen I use it mostly to break down almonds or nuts into nut butter, to make hummus or raw treats such as energy balls. Food Processors are also great to make side dishes like pesto, dips or spreads, and cookie or bread dough.

What you need to look for before buying a food processor:

When buying a food processor, there are four features that you should pay attention to in order to find the right gadget for your kitchen:

power

size/capacity

functions

extras and add-ons

Power

If you want your food processor to handle tough jobs such as energy balls, nut butter or kneading stiff dough, you should invest in a model with at least 600 watts. Food Processors with less than 500 watts sometimes struggle with creamy hummus or nut butter.

Size/Capacity

Before buying a food processor you need to ask yourself: “How many people am I cooking for?” and “How much storage room do I have?”. These two questions are very important, because food processors vary in size and capacity. If you cook for only two people, then 1.6 liters should suffice. If you cook for an entire family, however, I strongly recommend buying the bigger models with at least 2 liters (or even better 3 liters) capacity. It’s never fun to do things twice, at least not in the kitchen.

Functions

Most food processors only have one motor speed, which I found really strange in the beginning, because I was used to several speeds from my blenders. The better models also have a “pulse” function, which is needed to give quick but powerful impulses and to crush foods like nuts or herbs roughly.

Extras

Many food processors come with a large array of extras such as different blades for grading, different bowl sizes or even citrus presses. These attachment need a lot of storage capacity, so if storage is a scarcity in your kitchen, you might want to get a smaller machine in the beginning. However, the good models usually come hand in hand with the attachments and extras, so you might want to make some room in the basement or attic.

How to choose the best food processor:

My recommendations vary once again depending on the budget that you are willing to spend on a new food processor. I am sorry to break it to you, but as with most kitchen equipment, the more money you spent, the more you will get in return. Of course there are leaders in the food processor business, but there are also cheaper alternatives that are well suited for beginners or for those who do not want to spend a fortune on a kitchen equipment.

High Price Segment: The Magimix

The leader on the European market is the French brand Magimix, who kindly provided me with the 5200XL model. I have been using the Magmix for quite some time now, and what can I say, it’s the best food processor that I have ever used. I love that it comes with three different compartment sizes, blades, and even a citrus press. As a semi-professional blogger and food photographer, I use my food processor almost every day, so I need it to be powerful and big. With 1100 watts and 3.6 liters capacity, the Magimix is perfect for my needs. As a real German, I also highly appreciate the 3o year motor warranty, that guarantees a life long companionship between you and your Magimix. I have to admit that I rarely use the other functions other than the citrus press, because the cleaning process takes too much time if you don’t have a dish washer like me. And even though I got a dish washer last week, I still clean the knifes and bowls by hand, because I do not want them to become dull. The long cleaning process is one thing that I do not like so much about my Magimix. The other point of critique, or better what Magimix could improve in my opinion is a to integrate a scale into their machines. This is one feature that would absolutely upgrade the Magimix even more. The Magimix also comes with a pretty heavy price tag of 449 Euros, and I can understand that many people do not have the money or are not willing to spend that much money on a food processor.

Middle Price Segment

Fortunately, Magimix also has a cheaper alternative. The 3200XL model sells at 299 Euros and still comes with almost all the features of the 5200XL, but with only 650 watts. My blogger friend Marie from 8thandlake uses this machine for all her beautiful food creations such as almond butter or pestos, and she told me that it is the best kitchen equipment that she has ever bought. If you are lucky and you live in the UK or the US, then you can even get the 3200XL in white, which I would have loved. On the German market, you can only get it in silver chrome. In the US, there are very few retailers that sell the Magimix, but Marie told me that you can now finally get in at Williams-Sonoma. I know that especially in the US and UK, the KitchenAid Artisan is also quite popular. I have not tried this machine personally, but I think that 299 Euros for 300 watts is quite expensive. If you have experience with the KitchenAid food processors, I’d love to read about it in the comments below.

Lower Price Segment

If you are just starting to make your own dips, spreads and raw desserts, then there are various other brands that sell cheaper, but also good food processors. I can recommend the brand Kenwood, that is available in most European countries. The model FPP 225 compact sells at around 70 Euros, and even has a powerful motor with 750 watts. It is perfect for things like hummus and pestos, and for turning almonds or oats into flour. However, the Kenwood machines struggle with nut butter and kneading stiff doughs, and they tend to overheat quickly. I would not recommend buying anything cheaper than 70 Euros, 80 dollars or 50 pounds, because chances are high that those gadgets break after just a few uses, and you will end up having to buy a new one.

Magimix vs Thermomix – a direct comparison

If you live in Europe, then you have probably heard of the Thermomix. I have been the proud owner of the Thermomix for a couple of years now, and I would not want to miss it. Comparing the Magimix with the Thermomix actually makes no sense, because they are two completely different types of kitchen equipment. The Thermomix is a complete kitchen machine that can blend, mix, heat and even steam food. The Magimix is a food processor that is specialized in making smooth spreads, nut butters and cookie, cake or bread dough. The Magimix is not supposed to heat or blend soups and other hot liquids. However, the makers of the Thermomix advertise that it can do all the things that a powerful food processor can. I have to say that this is true, however, there are things like hummus, bean dips, energy balls or plant based brownie dough where the Thermomix struggles to produce satisfying results. There are always pieces of chickpeas in my hummus, and if you do not use enough chickpeas, the Thermomix really disappoints. The Magimix, however, always produces the creamiest hummus, raw desserts and nut butters, no matter how much raw ingredients you use. I know that I am being very picky here, because I am comparing two of the most trusted brands in the kitchen equipment industry, but you’ve asked for my honest opinion so this is it. If you love creamy hummus and spreads, then the Magimix is my number one pick. If you want a piece of equipment that can cook, steam and blend, all in one, then the Thermomix is your best choice.

To summarize, you need a food processor in order to make dips, spreads, doughs or nut butters. In my opinion, the best pick in terms of price and value is the Magimix 3200XL, as you really get the most for your money with this model. I am very satisfied with the 5200XL, but you only need this machine if you use it once or twice a day, like I do, or if you are a professional chef. Otherwise, the 3200XL is totally sufficient, and a great long-term investment with a 30-year motor guarantee. If you are only starting out, and you’re not quite sure how often you’ll use your food processor, then the Kenwood machines are a great and affordable way to start.

*I am lucky to have been giving a Magimix 5200XL for the purpose of testing food processors for this article. All opinions are my own.

Thank you for supporting the brands, that equip and support the Heavenlynn Healthy kitchen, thus making hour-long recipe testing sessions possible.

I’ve been getting many questions about the kind of blender I use for making smoothies, so I thought it would be a good idea to write an article about blenders and smoothie makers to shed some light onto the many machines out there on the market.
Let me start by defining what a blender actually is. A blender is a kitchen machine that is used to mix liquid-based food into smooth drinks, purees or pastes. The difference between a food processor and a blender is that a blender needs liquid to run smoothly, while a food processor does not need a liquid base to function properly.
My definition of the two is quite simple: I use my blender to make smoothies or any other drinks = liquids, and I use my food processor to make more solid things like hummus, energy balls or any kind of dough.

What to look for when you buy a blender

When you want to invest in a blender, there are four questions that help you determine which one is best for your personal needs:

How often are you planning on using it?

How much money do you want to invest?

How much kitchen storage do you have?

How many people are you serving?

Nearly every blender brand has different types of blenders, varying in motor power, container volume and height. The stronger and larger you want your blender to be, the more money you typically need to invest.

There are many different models on the market, and it might be a bit confusing what actually distinguishes the quality brands from low-quality brands. To find out if a blender is worth investing in, you need to look at four different criteria: number of rotations per minute, motor power, the container, and the blade. The number of rotations is important, because it determines how well a blender can break down plant fiber in order extract minerals and vitamins. Good high performance blenders should have a minimum of 25,000 rotations per minute. However, it is not always easy to find out this number as many brands do not provide this kind of information. They do, however, provide the motor power of their machines. I would recommend looking for a blender with a motor power of at least 900 W if you’re planning on using your blender frequently. If you only use your blender occasionally then 600 W is also fine, and if you’re just starting out, and do not want to spend a lot of money then 300 – 600 W is a good start. However, the more powerful your blender is, the better it will be able to blend smoothies and other drinks, and it won’t break as easily. Another important aspect is the container. Did you know that powerful blenders need to have square containers and not round ones? The reason for that is that round blenders simply stir the ingredients around, whereas square blenders provide a counter-flow of the liquids, which results in better blending of the ingredients. The containers of high performance blenders should also be made out of BPA-free plastic and not glass, mainly due to safety reasons. Blenders with less power usually have glass containers though. The final criterion is the blade, which should be made of stainless steel to be able to withstand strong pressures.

High price segment – the high performance blender Vitamix

I am quite lucky to have been given a Vitamix*, which is one of the strongest blenders currently found on the global market. I honestly have to say that this blender has completely changed my perception of smoothies. It’s truly the best blender I have ever used, and I now know why smoothies are called smoothie: because they are actually smooth! Even when you use greens like kale or spinach, you won’t ever taste pieces of them, because the Vitamix really transforms everything into an incredibly smooth texture. I have been using the Vitamix Pro 750, which is the strongest model on the European market so far. It has a 2 liter container, which is exactly what my smoothie-loving household needs. We use it every day, and are still amazed by its power. What I also love about the Vitamix is that it cannot only make smoothies, but it also makes great nut milks, soups, purees and pastes. It can even heat up the soups, which is a unique feature for a blender. That’s why I personally consider the Vitamix to be a hybrid – a mix between a blender and a food processor. I am not getting paid to say this, I just wanted to share my honest opinion on the Vitamix. Unfortunately the Vitamix is not exactly cheap, it ranges from 499 to 899 Euros, which is quite a heavy price tag, and I am fully aware that not everyone can afford a Vitamix.

Fortunately, there are cheaper alternatives on the market that even students like me can afford.

Middle price segment

My mother has been using a blender of the Phillips Avance collection for quite a while now. It costs around 100 Euros and is available across Europe. With 900 W, the Philips blender makes great smoothies, that come quite close to the quality of the Vitamix. I also really like its feature for crushed ice, and I’ve even used it to crush vegetables, too. The 2 liter container is large enough to serve a family, and it is easy to clean. The only thing that I dislike about this blender is that the container is made out of glass, because I consider BPA-free plastic containers as safer options. But all in all, the Philips Avance blender is probably the best blender in terms of quality and price.

The other brand that has been recommended to me is the Nutribullet, which is quite popular in the United States and the U.K. I have not tested this blender yet, but I have heard many great things about it. Its price ranges between 100 and 300 Euros depending on the model, so it is more affordable than the Vitamix. It has a small glass container than that serves 1 – 2 people. What I like about this blender is that you can use the container as a to-go-bottle, which is pretty handy, when you are in a morning rush. Another plus is that it is rather small, so it easily fits under the kitchen counter.

Both the Philips and the NutriBullet are not available in the U.S., so for my American readers, I can recommend the Nutri Ninja Series, which starts at around 150 Dollars. It is a very powerful blender with 1200W, and it makes heavenly creamy smoothies according to my American smoothie-loving best friend. I believe that the Nutri Ninja is one of the best first investments before upgrading to the Vitamix.

Lower price segment

I have tested many blenders throughout my life, and I have to say that a higher price usually pays off. There are many cheap blenders on the market, but most of them simply do not have the power to make great smoothies. If you are just starting to drink smoothies, and are not sure if a healthy lifestyle is for you, then I can recommend the brand Russell Hobbs, which is available across Europe. Its blenders start at 50 Euros, and which is very affordable. My best friend has been using hers for many years now, and she has been very content with its results. What she really likes is that it comes with a bottle-to-go so you don’t need to fill your smoothie in a different container when you’re in a rush.

I have not tested a lower price segment blender that is available in the U.S., so if you have any recommendations for more affordable brands in the U.S., I would love to hear about them in the comments below.

Can you make smoothies with the Thermomix?

And then finally, there is of course the Thermomix. The thing with the Thermomix is that it is actually not a blender, but a complete kitchen machine. I love my Thermomix, because it has so many features like a build-in steamer or food processor. However, like I said at the beginning of this article, food processors are just not meant to create great smoothies. Thermomix promotes that it can also make smoothies, and it absolutely can. However, in my opinion, you can still taste little pieces of kale or other greens in its smoothies, something that I just don’t like. I love you Thermi, but you’re just not a smoothie maker.

To sum up, finding the right blender is a question of what you need and how much you are willing to spend on it. If you are a big fan of smoothies and you make them every day, I would highly recommend investing in a stronger model like the Vitamix. It’s simply the best blender on the market, and it will give you great joy for a long time. There is a reason why many smoothie bars use this brand, because it simply creates the best results. If you don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on a blender though, I highly recommend the Phillips blender, or the Nutri Ninja which are the best buys in terms of price and quality.
